The Education of a Contessa
When I started this business, I consulted with LOTS of people, both professional and not. I had a pretty good background in business so it wasn’t the nuts and bolts of the operation, it was the business itself. Grading, fit models, jersey, weave, etc. It was a whole new lingo for me. I had always been involved in fashion from a young age but knowing what you like and creating it are two VERY different animals. There are over 4 million people employed in the fashion industry in the US alone and over $250 billion in annual revenue. It’s easy to see why people jump into the mix. So why should you try Island Contessa? Well, for starters, I’m you. You may be a bit younger than me or a bit older but we have much in common–a unique way with style; a great lust for adventure; a love for American made quality and a strong sense of self. The garments I design aren’t meant for everyone, they’re meant for you. Its taken me a long time to come to the realization that I am a different consumer when it comes to fashion. Which is why I now create it. Call that a special niche that appeals to royalty. That’s us.
