Find Your Joy

Joy. It’s one of those things that everyone defines differently.  For some, joy is spending time with family and friends.  For others it’s doing extravagant things.  For others it’s doing something that they really love.  Put me in that last category.  I’ve led an extraordinary life.  Born in the Midwest, I’ve lived in the south, on the East Coast and I now, blissfully live in the Caribbean.  I left a job in NY that paid me handsomely but brought me very little joy and candidly, didn’t use a third of my skill set.  When my husband and I moved to St. Croix, I made a commitment to myself that I was going to continue to earn a living but it was going to positively impact others AND it was going to bring me JOY.  Island Contessa does that and so much more.  From my designs to working with fabulous fabrics and being lucky to have some BEAUTIFUL customers and having the opportunity to give back.  Yes, count me lucky.

This past weekend, we gathered with some other local friends and did a wine cruise (lyricsails.com) on the West end of our island.  That’s me in the photo wearing one of my favorite pieces, The Mirabel (in limited edition print silk). The breezes were out, as was the moon, and the wine and tapas was tasty.  Because we’ve moved out of the tourist season, for the most part, it was locals on the ship.  We laughed and shared stories and bonded with our friends as we sailed the crystal blue Caribbean Sea.  Yes, my life is filled with joy on many levels and I never stop being grateful for it.  Have you found your joy?  If not, don’t stop looking until you do.
