Change is always good

When  I started Island Contessa, I knew that I would probably take the business through a series of changes.  It was a new endeavor. We were moving to an island. It was a new start for my husband and I.  We’ve spent the last several months re-evaluating the business and where it should go.  My husband, Frank, (my partner, advisor and playmate) has always trusted my instincts and encouraged me to take all of my adventures wherever they lead (we should all be that lucky to have a partner like that, right?) and so I am doing just that.

I’ve reimagined Island Contessa to be what I am and where I am in my life.  To that end, you’re going to start coming along on this adventure with me.  I’ll be showing off some of our house renovations to a gorgeous island home with spectacular views that just needs some TLC.  I’m going to share some of my writings with you.  I’ve written two books (the third one will be out before the end of the year) and I’m a published poet.  All of my writings have a decidedly island feel and cover my love of the tropics.  And finally you’re going to start seeing some changes with Island Contessa resort wear.

I’ve said all along that women who wear Island Contessa are special.  They’re a different kind of royalty–confident, grounded, sexy and they have an amazing sense of style and adventure.  You’re going to start seeing more of that sense of taste in the colors, fabrics and designs we’re expanding upon.  I am, from time to time, going to carry vintage pieces that I think compliment the Island Contessa style.  We’re going to start connecting you with some of the fabulous jewelers (who are artists when you really get down to it) on this lovely rock we call home and if we find others we like in other parts of the Caribbean, we’ll share those as well.  Finally, and this is probably our biggest change, we’re going to discontinue selling in boutiques and build out our online presence.  We will continue to support our current boutiques but we won’t be adding new ones.  Its a big change for us but one that we are quite confident is the right decision.  Why?  Because we asked you, our customers, and you gave us great feedback.​​  One thing that won’t change is our commitment to end domestic violence.  We will still continue to contribute a portion of our proceeds to domestic violence shelters wherever we think we can make the greatest difference.  As always we want you to look good in Island Contessa but we want you to feel good about shopping with us as well.

What a great time to be​ a woman business owner and be involved in such a creative and dynamic business.  I’m glad you’re here and I hope you’ll come along with us on this magnificent adventure.
